My New Domains!

Posted on: Wednesday, April 30th, 2008 in: Web Design Projects

I’ve been thinking about several possible domains I’d like to get over the past few months. In fact, I have post-it notes all over the place with possible domain ideas. Anyway, today I decided it was time to compile my notes and below are what I just now registered.

ZAMBIANPEANUTDECORTICATOR.COM – This domain is for my Senior Design Project. We are required to make a webpage for our projects, but I want to do a significantly better job than what UCR expects – and it will be good to have on my resume as well. There is a basic template site up already.

SDSFORUM.COM – It is possible that the SDS forum will at one point need to separate from the rest of Save Disney Shows, depending on how I end up reorganizing my hosting plans this summer. So I decided to get this name know, and I may or may not use it.

DISNEYSEARCH.ORG – I recently discovered this domain was available while researching Banner Exchange related domains. I couldn’t pass it up. I have no plans to develop it anytime soon, though.

RUFUSMANIA.COM – I used to get a lot of spam from a domain that was like, rufesmania.com and it always made me think “LOL Rufus Mania” – so I checked, and it was available. Maybe Rufus will start a blog. I dunno. I’m open to ideas on what to do with it.

SELENAGOMEZ.WS – I have an Ashley Tisdale site and an Alyson Michalka site – I figured I should probably grab a Selena domain too, while I still can. I would have preferred selenagomez.us, but it was already taken.

SELENAG.COM – Another possible Selena site. I got both so I can see which seems to work better.

HOTHAYDEN.COM – And then I realized, I need a Hayden Panettiere domain too. This is what I settled on, and I was actually rather surprised it was even available.

DEMILOVATO.US – So, I was talking to Zei today, and we got to talking about Demi. And I think she has a very real chance of being the “Next Miley.” And if it isn’t her, it’ll be Selena. So I figured I might as well get the domain now, while I still can.

DEMI-L.COM – Another Demi doamin. I might resell this as I like the .us domain. However, If I become a fan, I might rather have a “real” .com address so I figured I might as well get two while i was at it.

Don’t expect to see me actually do anything with any of these sites anytime soon, but I do feel better knowing that I have them reserved, and as such, I can begin thinking about my plans for them

Save W.I.T.C.H. Petition & Fanlisting

Posted on: Sunday, April 27th, 2008 in: Disney Channel News, Web Design Projects

I’ve spent a lot of time over the past couple weeks working on my own online petition. It’s an idea I had discussed with Wayne long ago, and after a recent discussion with Alex on my W.I.T.C.H. forum, I realized it was time I tried it! The final product is here:

http://savewitch.org/join/

Not only does the script do the job of taking people’s information, it also confirms emails, and integrates users into our email program’s mailing list. It also has an optional field that allows integration with the forum. And by creating separate petition views for Disney and for the public, it also serves a public fan listing, for those who wish to opt into that functionality. I’m very proud of this project. :)

Woot! Mythbusters @ UCR!

Posted on: Friday, April 18th, 2008 in: Adventures in La La Land, School Daze

I have no idea why, but Kari Byron and Grant Imahara from Mythbusters where on campus yesterday evening. Read the Post on the UCR Website. I found out about it on tuesday, and I just had to go. I arrived like 8:10ish thinking I’d be plenty early. The room reached it’s capasity of 500 persons when I was 16th from the front of the line. There must have been a good 200 more people behind me in line by that time! Then as one lady’s telling us they’re full and to leave, I see the first few people in the line get let in – and I jump back to where I was. Turns out, the fire marshal showed up and said it was okay to let in somemore people. I think they let another 50 or so in, including me. Finally, some good luck!

Kari and Grant where there for about an hour. They started with a five minute or so blooper reel from the show shown on the two large projection screens. I recorded most of it, and may put it on YouTube. The rest of the time was primarially a Q&A. When asked about ways to cheeat on a scantron exam, Kari said she didn’t know of any, and that she just usually sat next to the asian kid- then Grant waived. LOL I also learned that Grant has a book about robots, and that he was once on Junkyard Wars. Also interesting, Kari and Tory have degrees in film, Grant has a degree in engineering (Electrical? Mechnical? Who knows?), Adam “has… um… a high school diploma,” and  Jamie has a degree in Russian!

I took some photos too, and I’ve put them up in the photography section of the website. Just click the thumb below to see the whole set. :)

UCR Career Fair

Posted on: Friday, April 18th, 2008 in: School Daze

Yesterday was the UCR Career Fair. It was over at the UCR Student Recreation Center and there where quite a few companies there. And wow, was there ever a lot of free stuff. Of course, I also passed out a couple resumes and picked up quite a bit of contact information for several firms that need engineers. A couple photos included below. :)

The most horrible week ever continues…

Posted on: Friday, April 18th, 2008 in: School Daze

So it was tuesday, and I was driving home from school. As I’m crusing along on the freeway, the engine just… stops. No missfire, no jerk, no nothing, it just stopped running. I got the van over to the right shoulder and stopped. After taking a moment to calm down from the sudden adrenaline rush, I tried re-starting the car several times. It would crank, but it wouldn’t turn over. I ended up having to have it towed home – my second tow in six months and another $72.  Rich, a friend of my dad and a professional auto-mechanic came by and had a look at it, and he thinks it needs a new fuel pump. He’s ordered the part (More than $600!) and hopefully we’ll get the car fixed soon.

This morning my paternal grandfather passed away. He had been paralized from the neck down for the last month or so, likely due to strokes, and hadn’t eaten since last week. The nurcing staff didn’t expect he’d last as long as he did, but he was a fighter to the end. As far as we can tell, he died a peaceful death.

His quality of life had degraded to point where his passing is a good thing, but that only makes it easier to accept, not easy to accept. He also had cancer just over four years ago with a 0% chance of living more than six months, so I consider these past four extra years a gift. Now is the time when many people lean on their faith in an afterlife, and I can see why the idea is so appealing, but I don’t know if I can accept that as a posibility.

We don’t yet know when the funeral will be, but next Friday is the most likely time at this point. We’ll see how it goes. Even though he hasn’t been in my life as much over the past couple years as he once was, he really did about as much to raise me as either of my parents, and he will will truely be missed.

When technology is the problem, not the cure…

Well, my pocket PC seems to be dying.

I plugged it in overnight to charge and when I unplugged it this morning it was still at 33% power remaining. I figured it must be my charging cable that wore out, so I attached it to my car charger durring the drive to Riverside, when I checked it an hour later, it was still at 33%.

I have to try more stuff when I get home, but either my battery is shot, or the unit can’t re-charge anymore. I have another battery, somewhere, so I guess I’ll try that next. But if it’s the unit itself that can’t charge, I really can’t use it anymore. And they haven’t made stand alone PDAs like it in years, I don’t think. Maybe I’ll have to get one of them crazy new PDA-Phone Hybrid things.

Who says saving shows can’t be fun?

Posted on: Monday, April 7th, 2008 in: Disney Channel News

It’s been an exciting week at the SDS Forum.

The infamous former-admin Zei has returned to the forum, and the effect has been a wave of activity by both newer members and forum veterans. Even Webmaster Wayne saw it fit to drop in on Wednesday!

If you’re a registered member who hasn’t been to the forum in a while, or if you’re someone that thought about joining but didn’t, now is certainly a good time to visit!
