I saw Demi Lovato Again!

Posted on: Wednesday, December 10th, 2008 in: Adventures in La La Land, Disney Channel News

So I went to see Demi Lovato preform again at The Wiltern in Los Angeles on Monday. The first time at the Roxy was just so awesome that I wanted to try and experience that thrill again.

It didn’t go quite as planned. I started the day with a trip to Disneyland. It worked well enough when I went to see Vanessa Carlton in July so I thought I’d try it again. But I got delayed in the morning, and I ended up actually getting there at 4pm. Which was just enough time to get in Line for It’s a Small World Holiday.

It's a Small World Holiday

As soon as I got off, I headed over to the monorail to catch a ride out of the park. Unfortunately, it chose then to break. So I ended up hiking out through the front entrance – during the parade. I reached my car at 6:30pm – spending just over an hour actually inside Disneyland.

I made pretty decent time into LA, and found parking just behind the Wiltern in LA. I made sure I had my ticket, keys, ipod, and cell phone and jumped out of the car. I had seen before I parked that the line was already clear around the block!

It’s worth noting that I had purchased my new Blackberry Storm the the week prior, but it had yet to arrive. I really wanted it so that I could take photos with it’s built in 2MP camera, but sadly that was not going to happen. So instead I stood there, with four of the most annoying girls in the world right behind me, for an hour. All the while, the line grew behind me, eventually getting to the point where I could no longer see the end of the line. It was at this point that one of the security guys decided to tell us that we could take regular (but not professional) cameras into the venue.

NOW they tell me! And while I certainly wouldn’t mind having my new camera with me, I had left it in the car. And I was not going to get out of line after all the time I had invested. And I’m starting to wonder if maybe, just maybe, this wasn’t my day. But I just told myself that none of this would matter once I got to see Demi sing.

They let us into the theater, and it’s a lot bigger than I imagined. For those who haven’t been, the unreserved floor is grouped in to several major tiers. And I just missed the cut off for making it down to the tier closest to the stage. So I take up a position near the front of the second tier on the right hand side. And that was my first (okay, fourth) mistake. For I had underestimated the determination of overprotective moms that think their kid is the most important person in the world. Yes, I’m tall. But I’m clearly standing in one place. If your kid isn’t big enough to see around me, then DON’T STAND RIGHT BEHIND ME. Despite the fact that I got there first, several moms decided that I needed to move so their little brat could have a better view.

Sure, I could refuse, but then they just pester me during the show. And there’s no good response to “Excuse me, but my daughter can’t see around you.” I really doubt “Sorry, but I got here first” was gonna cut it. So all during the opening acts (a girl group called KSM and a boy band called Honor Society) I kept getting pushed further and further back. By the time Demi actually came on, I had lost about 8 feet! I might as well of gotten my camera and just stood off to the back / side for all my effort did me.

Now, at this point yes I’m excited that I finally am seeing Demi. But I’m also about four times further away than I thought I would be, tired from standing for 2.5 hours so far while trying to defend my spot, and rather pissed off at he moms that seem to be out to get me. Needless to say, it made it hard to enjoy the show.

Demi Lovato at the Wiltern

(Demi at the Wiltern. Not my photo, obviously)

The actual show was about an hour long. Demi did every song off her album except “On the Line.” This included “Believe In Me” which Demi said was a first for her at a concert. She also did “That’s How You Know” from Enchanted, “This is me” from Camp Rock and “Daydream” (a cover). All of which she did the last time I saw her. She also did a cover of Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name” and John Mayer’s “Daughters.” The one song I expected that she didn’t do was “Who Will I be” from Camp Rock.

YouTube user timeiswastingus was able to capture Demi’s first concert performance of Believe In Me,

And that cover of “You Give Love a Bad Name.”

Part of me was actually relieved when she was done. Not because I wanted to see her go, but because I just couldn’t stand there anymore. I got to see and hear Demi preform several songs I hadn’t heard before, but in a way it cheapened the original experience. I’ll go see her again sometime, but I think I’ll probably skip her next show. Just because nothing will be able to compete with that first show.

Introducing Sonny With A Chance Fans!

Posted on: Saturday, November 15th, 2008 in: Disney Channel News, Web Design Projects

I am proud to announce the creation of the very first Sonny With A Chance fansite, Sonny With A Chance Fans!

If you recall, I’ve been discussing the creation of this website for quite a while. Starting when it was called Welcome to Mollywood, and three months ago when the spelling of the new title was in question.  So I’m quite relieved to finally have the site up!

And although the show won’t actually premiere for at least a couple months, we already have a few screencaps from the first three Disney promos.

Demi Lovato - Sonny With A Chance

It’s hard to judge just from the promos, but it looks like they did a decent job on this show. Disney has not done show-within-a-show before, and it looks to me like they’re gonna do it right. But we’ll have to wait and see.

Walt Disney Studio Visit!

Posted on: Monday, September 29th, 2008 in: Adventures in La La Land, Disney Channel News

In quite possibly the best unintentional birthday present ever, I was invited to the Walt Disney studios in Burbank on September 26th 2008.

Disney was hosting a science and technology exhibition called TechRush08 and had invited local college students to attend; I of course was quite happy to attend!

The conference was hosted in the Frank Wells building.

The Walt Disney Studios

Which is located directly across Legends plaza from the Team Disney Building, the headquarters for the entire company.

The Walt Disney Studios

Other notable landmarks include the famous signpoast at the corner of Mickey Avenue and Dopey Drive. The sign was created as a movie prop, but was so popular that it marks the corner to this day.

The Walt Disney Studios

There are only seven sound stages on the Disney lot. The other studios have more, and it is common practice for the various studios to rent each other’s sound stages. And while disney has fewer sound stages, it also has the largest sound stage on the west coast, Sound stage 2 (shown below). Note the High School Musical poster on the side of the building

The Walt Disney Studios

We didn’t get to peak inside any of the sound stages, but we did see other interesting landmarks like the Water Tower.

The Walt Disney Studios

And they even took us inside the archives for a few minutes.

The Walt Disney Studios

There where artifacts that really surprised me, like letterhead of Walt Disney’s backyard railroad, the Carolwood Pacific.

The Walt Disney Studios

And even one of Walt’s buisness cards, from his days before Mickey Mouse!

The Walt Disney Studios

And something I found personaly enjoyed, Sharpay’s hat from High School Musical 2.

The Walt Disney Studios

It was certainly an interesting day at the Walt Disney Studios.

Sunny/Sonny With A Chance

Posted on: Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008 in: Disney Channel News, Web Design Projects

Remember Welcome to Mollywood?

Well, I just learned that Mollywood is now called Sunny With A Chance. Damn. Well, I guess I just won’t renew welcome-to-mollywood.com

But I’m not done with idea. Especially because I really do like Demi now.

So I did a quick check on sunnywithachance.com and found it’s been registered to Disney. So they’re serious about this new name. And sunnywithachance.net was also taken.

So I grabbed sunnywithachance.org for as a possible SDS afiliated site (should it ever be needed) and sunny-with-a-chance.com as a future fansite.

Hopefully they won’t change the name again.

EDIT:

So according to Zei and JustJared, it’s Sonny with a Chance. I checked and Disney registered sonnywithachance.com as well. So I decided to register sonnywithachance.org and sonny-with-a-chance.com. I swear, I better like this show after all of this!

Halloween, Hannah, and Hoes

So I got am email from Amazon letting me know about a special promotion they where having on Halloween costumes.

Dear Amazon Associate:

From now through Sept. 30, you can tell your readers to save money on costumes by shopping early. Customers spending $50 on costumes and accessories from a single merchant can get $10 off plus free shipping.

Amazon.com’s Costume Store makes it easy for you to shop thousands of costumes in one place. From Harry Potter to Batman to Tinkerbell, we have costumes for every man, woman, and child. We even have costumes for pets. Complete your look with wigs, masks, hats, shoes and other accessories.

So I click on the link to buy costumes just to see what they have and If I should pass along the link.

And I’m shocked by all the Hannah Montana stuff I see.

At least there was ONE Sharpay outfit.

…even if the girl wearing it is hideous.

Although, being hideous didn’t stop then 19 year old Jade from dressing up as Hannah last year. Yeah, that’s right, I went there.

So yeah… if anyone wants to save $10 on Halloween costumes, click here. The offer ends September 30.

Lookie what I got!

AJ-MICHALKA.COM – This domain recently expired, and I pounced on it!

AMANDA-MICHALKA.COM – As I continued my search, I found this one was also available. I’ve decided to use this one as my AJ fansite just because it has good symmetry with her sister’s site alyson-michalka.us.

I also wanted to mention a few domains that I picked up over the past few months that I forgot to mention here.

JEMMA-MCKENZIE-BROWN.COM – Jemma plays a “mini-Sharpay” in High School Musical 3. We don’t know much about her, but I found the domain available and decided to get out in front of the trend, for once!

SAVEWITCH.COM – I’ve built up my Save WITCH site at savewitch.org, and thought this was an important alternate domain to get.

LEMURZOOM.COM – Don’t ask. I really don’t know what I was thinking. …I like lemurs. :P

My thoughts on Camp Rock

Posted on: Sunday, June 22nd, 2008 in: Disney Channel News

In a word, “Meh.”

In several words, “Demi did okay, but the movie had no soul. It was just a bunch of random songs”

RS.net & KP Crew Lunch

Posted on: Sunday, May 25th, 2008 in: Adventures in La La Land, Disney Channel News

The RS.net and KP Crew Lunch, 2008 was great! A huge thanks to RD for putting the whole thing together and to everyone else who made it.

Welcome to Mollywood

Posted on: Thursday, May 22nd, 2008 in: Disney Channel News, Web Design Projects

Welcome to Mollywood is the working title of a new DC series that centers on 15-year-old Molly (Lovato), a Midwestern girl who wins a nationwide search to move to Los Angeles and join the cast of the most popular teen sketch comedy show on TV. The series will feature a show-within-a-show, with fully produced comedy sketches.

So I just now registered WELCOME-TO-MOLLYWOOD.COM :D

Save W.I.T.C.H. Petition & Fanlisting

Posted on: Sunday, April 27th, 2008 in: Disney Channel News, Web Design Projects

I’ve spent a lot of time over the past couple weeks working on my own online petition. It’s an idea I had discussed with Wayne long ago, and after a recent discussion with Alex on my W.I.T.C.H. forum, I realized it was time I tried it! The final product is here:

http://savewitch.org/join/

Not only does the script do the job of taking people’s information, it also confirms emails, and integrates users into our email program’s mailing list. It also has an optional field that allows integration with the forum. And by creating separate petition views for Disney and for the public, it also serves a public fan listing, for those who wish to opt into that functionality. I’m very proud of this project. :)
