"Kimvention" Planning Update
Author: Gregory Isaac
PubDate: 01/16/07 12:04 AM PST

The following message is from the Organizer of the first Kim Possible Fan Convention. Direct enquiries about this event to kimvention1@kpfanworld.com.

Hokay, here we go!

I kept the appointment with the Manager of the Burbank Marriott as promised, and here's what transpired.

Bear with me, I'm not used to the format of this message board... I'm trying to include the pics I took, too...

The meeting went really well, I met with a young lady by the name of Catherine Gibson. I had a very nice opening conversation with her, and explained what I wanted to do.

I was delighted to find out she DID know of the show, discovering KP along with her daughters. It made the meeting go SOOO much smoother, and put us both at ease. She even knew what a NACO was, and talking about it, I started to get hungry.

Catherine first showed me the Junior ballroom we'd like to use for the event...

A fair size, and will accommodate the target figure of 50 to 75 guests We hope will be able to attend this auspicious occasion.

Next Ms. Gibson took me upstairs to check out a couple of rooms that out-of-town guests may opt to use...

First, a pic of a single.

Nice bed, nice room, SPOTLESS! The view out the window was really great, too. Mountains all around.

I asked her if there were rooms with 2 king beds, and she said "of course, no problem there". Good deal, huh?

Next we saw a 'suite'. VERY roomy, 2 rooms and 2 bath with sleeping accommodations for 3, or 6 very friendly people, LOL!

The couch is a convertible, and just around the corner to the right, I took a pic of the bedroom, but the pic didn't come out for some reason #-o

I got caught taking notes at the desk after Catherine figured out how to fix the camera. Seems I had pushed the wrong button, and didn't know how to set it right. YAY, CATHERINE! Thank You!

After taking the pics upstairs, we went back down and sat to crunch the numbers. After much Big Daddy Brotherson banter, we came to this:

Ballroom, $750.00 for the day. Includes all tables, chairs, desks and a PA (public address) sound system. Seems like a fair price to me!

The cost for the food and drink was through the roof, though! Minimum charge, based on 50 people, came to $27.50 per head, even with the buffet style dinner I suggested. YIKES!

I almost had my imaginary henchman play "Thud" with Catherine just then, but I politely declined the food and beverages.

There had to be a solution to this sitch!

So, after the meeting concluded, I asked Catherine if she'd allow me to take a Pic of us concluding the meeting.

A good publicity shot for the Burbank Marriott resulted...

The meeting went very smoothly, Catherine is VERY professional, gracious, and FUNNY! We were laughing quite a bit about Ron's antics on the show!

The problem remained about the food question, though. Somebody suggested breaking for lunch and going off-site to a mall called "Empire Center", which is VERY close to the hotel.
EXCELLENT suggestion, and much more affordable for all on a budget, like ME for example. :P
I can't reveal who suggested this great alternative to over-priced hotel food, but I CAN tell you he's pretty HIGH on the Food Chain, LOL!
I'm SURE that will be revealed at The Gathering.

It's looking REALLY good so far for a target date of July 7th... a good date for MANY involved in this endeavor.

Remember, though. I HAVEN"T signed the contract for the venue YET.
We need feedback and RSVP's from a lot of members and other folks to make this work.

Another issue has popped up as to being fans of other shows. We are inviting fans of ALL the shows our distinguished guests have worked on. It's only fair, don't you think? Doesn't matter if you're a fan of 'The REAL Ghostbusters, ADJL, or whatever.
All are welcome. After all, we're going to have SEVERAL hours to fill, and grill our honored guests with questions galore!

This is going to be a fun-filled day! And there are SO many options as what to do afterwards while you're in sunny Southern California.

We at RS.NET have several members that are itching to come, one in particular coming all the way from Malaysia!

In conclusion, We at RS.Net say this is DO-ABLE, gang. And we should AL be pulling for this!

Questions and answers will be answered by our Kimvention Committee by e-mailing...

kimvention1@kpfanworld.com

Or I'll pop on in here from time to time and check out this page for questions.

At this point, I'd like to quote the motto for this:

KeeP the Faith!
